There are many good things that can come from singing in a choir or a vocal ensemble. Choirs are inevitable and necessary when you are learning how to sing. It’s an extra experience that will teach you the art of performance.
TEAMWORK
Teamwork is always fun. All your different voices form one entity. It’s not just about you but about the entire choir. You also learn respect since not everyone in that choir is a professional singer. They all have different voices and techniques and you should accept it. Group singing will teach you how to listen to others while listening to yourself, and develop your ear through hearing others (multitasking).
FOLLOW THE LEADER
Part of singing in a choir is learning how to work with a conductor, and being open to criticism and constant change when it comes to the music you are performing.
LEARNING NEW THINGS
Learning new music and different styles/genres. Choirs are also an extra practicing opportunity. And you might discover some new things about your voice.
WONDERFUL THINGS
Because of the intimacy of choir singing, this activity is highly recommended for the health, the mind and the moral. This is why many retirees engage in such an activity. Also, it has been proven scientifically that all singers in a choir have synchronized heartbeats (possible because of the synchronized breathing cycles).

Things to watch out for…
- Easy to sing flat when others are.
- Easy to tire your voice if you don’t listen to yourself as well.
- Being stuck in only singing in choirs (comfort zone).
